Fabric Content Guide: Organic Cotton vs. Bamboo

Fabric Content Guide: Organic Cotton vs. Bamboo

Why do people love Bamboo & Organic Cotton for baby clothes? We'll tell you!

While both fabrics have unique qualities (we'll get into that in a minute), they do share a few qualities that we LOVE. First off, both Organic Cotton and Viscose from Bamboo are recognized as eco-friendly materials. Organic Cotton avoids use of toxic chemicals and uses less water than regular cotton. Bamboo is a resource that grows very quickly, "...up to 35 inches a day..." and does not generally need any fertilizers or pesticides.

Organic Cotton

Some people might ask - what IS the difference between Organic Cotton and Conventional Cotton? Unlike Conventional Cotton, Organic Cotton has a bit tighter restrictions on how it is made and used. It is not exposed to harsh chemicals, processing agents, or pesticides that conventional cotton can be. Because of this, the cotton holds onto its natural strength better and lasts longer than conventional cotton. Conventional cotton is more prone to breaking down quicker, due to the softeners and chemicals it is prepared in. Organic Cotton, like Bamboo, is generally hypoallergenic and very soft - making it great for sensitive skin. Our cotton products are made with either 100% Organic Cotton (these products will have "Organic Cotton" in the name) or a blend of Organic Cotton and Spandex for stretch (these products will have "Cotton Stretch" in the name).

Bamboo

Demand for viscose from bamboo Baby clothes (particularly sleepwear and pajamas) has been increasing in the past few years, as people are discovering just how soft and comfortable it is. While any of us can appreciate just how soft it is, babies' skin in particular is sensitive - which makes it the perfect fabric to help avoid irritation while being comfy. Another benefit is that bamboo is generally considered hypoallergenic and has antimicrobial properties. Lastly (as mentioned above), Bamboo is a sustainable material, so you can be sure that NOT ONLY will your baby love our products, but you can rest assured knowing that they were sustainably made. Our bamboo products will have either "Bamboo" or "Luxe Stretch" in the name.

In a direct comparison - Organic Cotton is a bit thicker and more durable, while Bamboo is a bit softer (think silky in texture).
